Money & Energy Saving Tips For Your Home

Here are some no- or low-cost ideas that can help you save energy and money at your home.

  • Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents.

  • Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher's drying cycle.

  • Use your microwave instead of a conventional electric range or oven.

  • Unplug all chargers when not in use, they still draw electricity while plugged in.

  • Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.

  • Plug home electronics, such as TVs and VCRs, into power strips and turn power strips off when equipment is not in use.

  • Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater; 115º is comfortable for most uses.

  • Take showers instead of baths to reduce hot water use.

  • Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

  • Tune in next week for more tips!

  • Have a professional clean your chimney, make sure damper closes tightly.

  • Install storm windows and door panel.

  • Install weather stripping .

  • Clean out garage.

  • Remove items that will freeze from unheated shed.

    September is the New Year

I have been reading a lot of articles lately about September being the start of a new year. The articles are making sense to me. As the lazy days of summer draw to a close, we begin our normal routines again.
  • You buy new clothes and supplies for back to school.

  • New schedules are being made.

  • Your various group meetings begin again.

  • You begin to cook indoors again.

  • You prepare your home for the coming fall and winter.

  • Your favorite tv shows begin again.

  • September would be a great time to start your new year’s resolutions. They would be easier to keep!

  • So why not make September The New Year! We can keep the celebration in January just to break up the winter doldrums!
During the next few weeks, I’ll be blogging about thing to do for your home to prepare for the fall and winter season.
