Emergency Preparation Checklist

This week I thought I would remind all of us to have an emergency preparation checklist since Hurricane Danielle is roaming around the Atlantic Ocean. It never hurts to be prepared! Remember to periodically check and replace emergency supplies

• Battery-powered radio, extra batteries
• Flashlights, batteries
• Bottled water
• First-aid kit and Manual
• Non-perishable food
• Can opener (manual)
• Walking shoes, gloves
• Tools, instructions for turning off utilities
• Personal medications, infant formula
• Cash & Credit Cards
• Make arrangements for your pets
• Fuel your Car
• Bring in or secure outdoor lawn furniture, toys etc.
• Store important documents and valuables in waterproof containers

Stay prepared and stay safe!

Since summertime Is a popular travel time. Whether you are going away for a week or two or just a long weekend, I have compiled a handy checklist to help you get ready for your trip.

Vacation Checklist

  • Water plants and mow lawn before leaving home or arrange for a neighbor to care for them while you're away

  • Unplug any appliances sensitive to power surges, such as computers, microwaves, and television sets

  • Stop all home-delivery services (mail, newspaper, milk, diapers, and so on) or arrange to have items picked up by a neighbor

  • Set lights and a radio on timers. Turn up the radio loud enough so it can be heard outside

  • Store food in your freezer to prevent having to run to the grocery store as soon as you return home

  • Remove perishable items from your refrigerator

  • Empty all waste baskets & run the garbage disposal to eliminate the possibility of unpleasant odors

  • Check your spare tire and jack to ensure they are both in working order

  • Check oil level, tire pressure, and coolant level, and all other fluid levels

  • Pack a first-aid kit into the trunk

  • Pack water, drinks and snacks to bring on your trip, especially if you are driving.

  • Remember to pack cards, travel games, puzzles, books to keep the children busy while driving.

  • Bring a travel pillow and blanket for the drive.

  • Purchase postcard stamps and take with you

  • Print address labels of people to send postcards to. It’s much lighter to carry a sheet of labels than your address book

  • Hope these tips help you to have a relaxing, enjoyable vacation.
